TOOTH IMPACTION • In dental terminology, an "impacted" tooth refers to one that has failed to fully erupt (emerge into its expected position). This failure to erupt properly might occur because: 1. There is not enough room in the person's jaw to accommodate the tooth. 2. The tooth's eruption path is obstructed by other teeth. 3. Because the angulation of the tooth is improper. It's usually due to genetic makeup. It's been estimated that about 25% of people are lacking one or more wisdom teeth. • Types of impactions (classifications) - a. Medial, Distal, Vertical and Horizontal b. Soft tissue and Bony Wisdom Tooth Impactions • Valid reasons to extract - Pericoronitis / Infection. Complications associated with tooth decay. Periodontal disease (gum disease). Pathology - Cysts, tumors. Risk of damage to adjacent teeth / Root resorption. Chronic pain, headaches, pressure. Problems associated with poor tooth alignment. • Best age for wisdom tooth extraction - There's no set rule stating a specific age by which a person "must" have their wisdom teeth removed. That's because third molar extractions can be performed successfully for patients in all age groups. However, it's recommended that wisdom teeth should (most ideally) be removed between the ages of 18 and 25 years. We here at "ConfiDental Multispeciality Clinic" provide painless extractions of all types of impacted teeth by a highly specialised "Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon".
